image “A SECRETIVE ministry with direct links to Gloria Jean’s Coffees and the Hillsong Church has been deceiving troubled young women into signing over months of their lives to a program that offers scant medical or psychiatric care, instead using Bible studies and exorcisms to treat mental illness. Government agencies such as Centrelink have also been drawn into the controversy, as residents are required to transfer their benefits to Mercy Ministries. There are also allegations that the group receives a carers payment to look after the young women.” – The Sydney Morning Herald, March 17th 2008

Yes, I was mistreated at Mercy. The staff weren’t qualified so I got no proper treatment for my condition, and they were obsessed with the thought that mental illness is caused by demons. Going there was very detrimentle to my recovery, one of the worst things I’ve ever done.

    Hi,

Sorry to here this. It is terrible that this kind of thing goes on. I deconverted from Christianity about three years ago. Whilst at church I was taught that illness is from the devil. This always confused me greatly. For example, the bible mentions epileptic fits and how demons were the cause of it. Science has since shown that epilepsy is caused by an abnormal firing of electrical impulses in the brain, which causes a temporary interference to normal brain function.

There is nothing demonic about epilepsy and can be controlled by drugs, thanks again to modern medical science. There is nothing demonic about mental illness either, and ever year we understand more about how our brains actually work.

I hope you have now managed to get the help you need, all the best.

    Hi Tom,

Thanks for letting me know. You want to know why it’s not available?

Mercy Ministries have issued a take down notice under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. “This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Mercy Ministries, Inc.”

The content of the video was taken from a news channel which under fair use would have been the only body able to issue a DMCA take down.

It appears that Mercy Ministries has issued an illegal DMCA take down on this video in order to illegally use an intellectual property mechanism to silence critics.

    This is utterly disgraceful.

    Hi Tom,

A little research reveals a disturbing fact about Mercy Ministries International. I’ve put a fresh article up addressing this, which you can find here: http://www.deconverts.com/2008/11/17/hillsong-mercy-ministries-international-petulantly-silences-abused-women/
